Sacred Dinner Hour I recently read in a great blog (you know who you are!) about the sacred dinner hour. This girl makes sure that dinner is sacred in her home, everyone sits together and they have old fashioned normalcy. I've worked on it this week and feel myself connecting more with my family. It is so easy to rush through dinner. It is so easy to read and eat, study and eat, and RUN and eat. But taking the time to actually sit together as a family brings a wonderful calm to our home. The world slows down and I'm left with who and what really matters in my life. I'm there with them and all is well in the world. We chat, solve problems, and enjoy each other. Evenings without the TV have been a recent wonderful gift. It is amazing how much more tuned in you are when you tune out.

My 9 year old is obsessed with golf. He is so darn cute. He has several school projects in which he has incorporated his passion for the sport. He had to do a site survey where he sketched and wrote about a place in the community. He picked a garden off a local golf course. He had to do a biography of a famous person (making a figure and giving a speech) -- he picked Tiger Woods. I love seeing his eyes light up when he talks about golf. I love the way he becomes animated when talking about his golf heroes (he actually likes Vijay Singh best, but there were not any books on him). The wonder of a child is a beauty to behold...

I wonder what we will have during our sacred tonight. My daughter wants the job of setting the table. She is 10 and has a smile that is so sweet it brings tears to my eyes. Last year her projects were all about soccer. She likes the sacred dinner hour. We are making the time. I am grateful. We are making the time right now during the spring insanity of soccer, final school projects, and me doing a spring semester on top of work mayhem. If we can do it now, we can keep this up. I think our lives will be better for this effort.
