A blog caught my eye and linked this article. Prior to reading the article I was thinking about making a witty comment to her post about how I wished I'd had this done to me to stunt breast growth. Then I read the article. I hate my double D's and always have, but I'll take them over the alternative. Ugh.

My daughter is 10 and is starting to develop. We call them "buds." My daughter is a tomboy and is basically appalled at the thought of having boobies already. She has friends who have developed, but she'd prefer not to join the club. I understand completely. I gave up soccer because running with breasts of size was painful. I hated that they hurt. Let's face it, there comes a breast size where just running up a flight of stairs you feel pain.

I took after Grandma Dolly and I have always had big knockers -- even when my weight was ideal. Yes, they are larger when you are overweight, but mine were huge even when an ulcer kept me to my ideal weight for 2 years. Underwire bras are not happening here -- have you ever been stabbed by a broken wire? I'd rather sag, thank you very much. (The specialty bra shop in town set me up with a feat of engineering that didn't empty the dreaded wire - I love this style bra but hate the $60 price tag. Enough already! Big breasted women have back problems -- do we need to be broke too????)

Anyway... Reading that article made me sad. Those poor girls suffering so much pain to protect them from predators of the opposite sex. I wish the world were not so cruel. I had never heard of this practice until now. I'm sick to think of these poor young women.

As for my daughter -- she is an athlete and I will spend whatever it takes to keep her boobs from taking that away from her. I don't know how large breasted women can run -- but bless their hearts! I am getting a breast reduction when I've lost more weight. I am sick of the pain in my shoulders.

I pray my developing daughter takes after her paternal grandmother when it comes to boobs. Grandma lacks boobs. May Monkey Girl (she has always been able climb like you would not believe) have a B cup!

May young girls everywhere not fear developing into women.

You know what, if she does get the bazoombas just be supportive if she needs reduction surgery too.

And...you are going to feel even thinner after you get yours done!

I plan on being supportive of the surgical option if it comes to that. My sister had a reduction and is MUCH happier. It is amazing how smaller sized boobs open up wardrobe options! Should my daughter need the surgery, I will encourage her to go that route. I don't want her to give up sports like I did. I can't wait to lose the weight and have mine reduced -- they are not worth the back pain.
