I was hoping it would not come to this... Hubby's business is in serious trouble. August 1 and there is no work to be done. This is not reality in the construction business. Usually I am trying to remember what he looks like this time of year.

I've enjoyed having him around, but the prospect of no paycheck is daunting. If there is no work, there can be no paycheck. My salary is not enough to support this family.
I've known that construction was suffering for a long time. Hubby and his dad have been able to keep busy longer than many others in the business. They know what they are doing and they do it well. They don't cut corners -- they always do it right the first time. This paid off in work that continued through July, but now things have completely dried up. Up until this time hubby has been able to hustle a job up and keep busy.

As of now he has absolutely nothing planned for the rest of the week.
Normally he has worked 6 days a week May through October. This year he was able to take the 4th of July holiday with us. He is also going on a golf trip with his buddies in a few weeks. How cute is he that he was rolling coins from the change jar so that this trip would not impact the budget. I would have busted the budget to send him -- he needs the time away from it all.

I hope and pray things improve. I'm going to play the lottery as well. What the hell, you never know.
Tomorrow is the first Tuesday of the month. The first Tuesday is always mass for my Mom at my church. Her friends still show up. It's been 16 months. They miss her too. There is great comfort in knowing others loved her so much too.

I hope things begin to look up for the business soon. Hmmmm...my husband is going to a golf tournament on the 4th (but I think we live on opposite coasts), so I will be with you in golf-widow spirit!

On a different note, it sounds to me like your beautiful mom will ALWAYS be missed. Have a great week.

I am so sorry to hear about husband's work right now. Perhaps it's just an anomoly, and jobs will start rolling in again. Is it related to your location? the heat? the local real estate market?

I hope things get better. And you are so lucky to have your mom. Mine is living and we had such an awful rift, we aren't speaking right now. Even when they are alive, there's no gaurantee to have as close a relationship as you do with yours.

Best,
Lisa

It is the state. You hear talk here of a "one state recession." Our state is in a recession with little to no signs or recovery. Too much auto related business is the issue (guess what state we are in :-). We are fortunate business held on this long...

Thanks you both for the kind words about my Mom -- I was blessed to have her as my mom. She was an amazing woman and example.

Hang in there Lisa. Hopefully you will start speaking soon!
