The beach was a great place to fly the kids kites. I'm so glad we finally remembered to bring them with us. We have not had kite success in the past but this time around went well. Winds were light but with this kite it didn't seem to matter. Hurray for good kites!

Someday I'd like to go for a ride on a sail boat...

They may be considered rats with wings, but they sure do make you feel like you are at the beach! Luckily they were few... My dear Wonder Boy's greatest dream is to fly. It broke his heart to learn at 4 that humans can not fly. He had held out hope and was crushed. At 9 he still has this as his greatest dream; to fly without aid of any device.

Nothing like a handstand! Wonder boy put on quite a show -- you should have seen him put on a splash show. I cracked up -- he made the water dance as the sun began to set. (I didn't stage the bucket, Wonder Girl left it there and I was too lazy to get up from my towel to move it).

The two of them would go out, discuss which swim stroke to use, and then race to shore. I'm glad the swimming lessons are paying off!

Okay, how beautiful is that???? I need a new filter for the camera -- got a touch of glare on this photo and that made me sad. Oh well! You get the idea! It is interesting what happens when you lock the focus on the autofocus prior to taking the shot. Colors can come out plain or vivid depending on where you center the focus prior to taking the shot. Gosh I love taking pictures!

It was a marathon beach day. We were there from 2:30pm until sunset. Watching the sun go down on the lake took my thoughts to my Mom. My kids were thinking of her too. The mentioned how when the sun went down and then peeked back under the clouds how the sliver of sun looked like a bright red boat. They said Grandma had sailed back to see us...

Moments later....
What you can not tell from this photo is that the tiny sliver on top of the water is the sun peeking out from under the clouds. It looked like a boat on the water. The kids pointed it out to me. We talked about how it would be nice to have Grandma with us or to be on the boat with her. Wonder Boy told me how he pictured her on the shining red boat. He pictured her coming back to check in on us. It was nice, not sad. We miss her. The lake brings many wonderful memories of time spent with her there. I'm grateful for the time we had. I'm grateful for my stolen weekends Up North with the kids.Life is good!
I look at this smattering of pictures and am happy. Running away for the weekend is the best! When I finally become a teacher we will take off for weeks instead of weekends! I look back at these pictures when I lose the energy for working and taking classes. This is worth the fight!
Here is a photo of my Mom and niece at the lake. I took this with her camera way back in '98 I think....
Weekends and weeks at the lake. When I look back at the end of my life I know I will look back at these times with wonder. Whether it is a flash as my life passes before my eyes or whether I will be an old woman in a rocker reflecting back, THIS is what it is all about. This is the best!(The following post was written an an email to myself throughout the weekend. Apparently blogging is my therapy. I vented all of my feelings -- good and bad. First is a blow by blow of the weekend, then there is another Evil Sister post -- it had to be done!)

Those pictures are beautiful. Thank you for the extremely nice comments on my blog and yes, my mom did read the post (she even commented).
Your blog is a beautiful tribute, if I may, and although your mom isn't physically here, her memory most definitely is and you are doing a wonderful job of keeping that alive. Thank you for sharing something so very painful and personal and allowing others to see. I'll be back!

Your blog is like a visual vacation for me with all these great photos. I love that you have all this beauty on a stark black backdrop with the nam grim reality for your blog. kind of shows the beauty through the pain of life. what a great message. love it.

Thank you carrie and thank you Lisa!
I'm SO pleased that you both view my blog this way!!
The snapshots of beautiful moments take me back to them. I love being able to meander through my memories this way. Writing this blog helps me process what I'm thinking about -- somehow venting about silly things like Mean Picture Lady (and even at the DMV makes me happy. I'm glad you enjoy!!!
What beautiful pictures! I'm jealous! I would love to be sitting looking at those beautiful scenes! I'm glad you had a great time!
