So, I'm reading "Beowulf" in my medieval literature class. Some sick part of me decides that it is boring enough to read to Wonder Boy (10) and Super Girl (11) as a bed time story. I gave them some historical perspective and then launched into the tale of the warrior, monster, and mead hall. The kids were bored out of their minds.
Heck, I was too as I rushed along reading. They didn't get most of it, so I'd pause after each page and provide color commentary and a summary. The longer I stretched between summaries, the more tired they became. They kept waiting for the exciting part.... and then fell asleep just before Beowulf battles Grendel. This is the earliest they have gone to bed in WEEKS! I might just be on to something here!
Taking two literature classes at the same time makes a mind a little wacky. After Beowulf I must return to The Pioneers (SUCH a boring book, but a good text to show you how far American Literature has come!). I will be one heck of a literate chick when this semester is done!
Tomorrow is my parent's 42 year wedding anniversary. My niece is scheduled to arrive by c-section at 2:00pm. I feel so happy that this blessing falls on a day of sweet sorrow for my Dad. We all miss Mom so much. Tomorrow he will have sweet thoughts of her intermixed with the sweet reality of his granddaughter's birth. I am grateful for the prayers which have brought my niece full term. I am grateful that we finally get to meet her! Maybe I can read Beowulf to her? Um.... maybe not! :-)

before I could read, I would look at the pictures with the Beowulf story and it scared the pantaloons off me.
Come easy baby --- emerge in a soft cocoon of love and laughter... fill hearts with the little cries that a newborn makes that seals the deal when mom hears you for the very first time. and be thankful that you have an aunt that will be like a godmother... watching over you and speaking life into your home and family.
Amen!
