Car Wash

As I drove about doing errands yesterday I was struck by the number of car wash fund raisers going on. Sure, it was the perfect day for it. Sure, my car was kind of dirty. But as I looked at the various car was opportunities, I could not choose one I felt good about.

None of these car washes listed a price on the signs they waved. No, instead of advertising their car wash these groups were doing something you have probably seen. They were out there shaking it on the main road. In bikinis. Tiny bikinis.

Call me a prude, but I'm not so comfortable with that. I think of my daughter being part of a high school cheer team (not likely as she hates "girly girl" stuff) and I got a little sick feeling. I would not want my daughter out there on a main road in a tiny bikini shaking it to get some yucky guy to pull into a lot to have his car cleaned. Ew. It felt like if I pulled into one of these care washes I would be supporting this tiny bikini trend.

I remember doing car wash fund raisers when I was a teen. A few people hold signs with the price and cause for which we were raising money. People always gave more than the price. But guess what? The people in bathing suits were washing the cars. They were not wearing the smallest bikini in the world be cause that would fall off if you were really washing a car. The people by the road didn't shake it for the crowd -- they waved towels.

Is it me, or are the current day car wash fund raisers exploiting young people in an inappropriate way? Were these my students or my team I'm not so sure I'd be comfortable letting them hold a car wash after what I noticed around here yesterday. At one corner I saw two girls adjusting a boy's shorts so his boxers were a little more visible. He had a Matthew McConaughey was board stomach. Wow. I mean, WOW! Then I thought, YIKES. What if that were my teen son? Would I want some old lady like me to look at his physique and think "WOW!"? I don't think so.

All of this made me feel old and dirty. All these car washes were the same -- bathing suits on the main road with teens shaking their goods to get attention. I did not get my car washed.

I wonder if it is like this everywhere? Am I a prude? Was my car wash experience tame in the past and this is how it has always been?

You are not a prude. I blame Britney Spears....I think she may have singlehandedly brought down girls' fashion!

Even the clothes for young girls are hoochy! ICK!

no, i'm with you, too. car washes were like this when i was in HS (about 10 years ago).and i think it's that way most places in the US. for some reason, modesty just isn't valued the way it used to be. sad.

I'm with you! It's not even just car washes. Have you seen the way some of the teens go out of the house dressed? Sometimes, I get embarrassed and worried for these girls. What if someone takes advantage of them? What kind of message are they sending out? Do you really need to go out of the house half-naked to "feel good" about yourself?

Oh and you've been tagged!!

Here is how to play:

If you had the opportunity to do a 1-year internship in a company or field completely unrelated to your current career or specialty, what would be your top 5 choices?

My choices:

* I would love to be a professional singer/song writer
* An advertising executive for a top ad-firm
* Work as a PR person
* Be a motivational speaker
* Writer

So what are your 5 alternate careers?

I hope you're having a wonderful Sunday!!

[sigh] I also agree. Makes us sound so *old* tho, doesn't it? But that's OK. Ya, whatever happened to go old fashioned modoesty? If that was my daughter I'd go nuts!
Too cold over here at the moment for car washes, but the only ones we really have around here are the Boy Scouts, and they dont exactly get around in skimpy gear! Gawd, i hope not! hahahaaa.
