Snow Day

I am jealous of my kids -- they have a snow day and I don't. Adults need snow days too! A friend sent me an email that has inspired me to prose…. Here it goes!

A rough rough draft….. If you want to edit and improve it feel free. Cut and past into comments -- pleased if you try, it won't hurt my feelings. I have never been a poet but thought the idea was fun to try as I pondered the wonder of snow days this morning.

I still wish I had a snow day.

Snow Days!

We gather by the radio as the newscaster reads the list.
Hoping and praying our city they will name.
We want a snow day of freedom, can we be blamed?
We hear it. Screams of joy, peals of laughter, you get the gist.

Dancing for joy, jumping up and down, the day is ours now – wonder abounds!
Will we sled? Will we eat? Will we read? Watch shows? Sleep?
It doesn't matter because we are free, f r e e, free! Happy we will keep.
The snow day gift wrapped in bliss -- – the fun is contagious and spread all around.

Oh to have that freedom today would bring the wonder of youth.
How I long to put on snow pants, mittens, hat, scarf and boots.
To lay in the snow an angel I'd make. To dabble in the fun, holler and hoot!
A snow day begs for activity –-- like when you must wiggle a loose tooth.

I remember the wonder, the joy. To think the snow shovel was just a toy.
Today I will envy my girl and my boy. They are playing with the snow day!
May they look back in wonder and remember childish innocent ploys.
I hope as adults they recall the snow day's treasure discovered today.

The snow day is here! I pray they fall under the spell.
May the snow magic dance, swirl, and pick them up in its light.
Snow days are numbered; please let them spend it right!
