This weekend was great. Hubby had to work, but the kids and I had a vacation type weekend. After a quick clean of the house on Saturday morning, we hit M's soccer game and then we were free! We went to the cider mill, got lunch and ate it at the park, went to the pumpkin patch, walked through a corn maze, carved pumpkins, and just let the day take us where it would. Sunday morning we got up and carved again! We tried to go golfing but the coarse that allows 8 year olds was closed for the season -- so we went to the driving range. We got home and carved some more. We then went to R's game and came home to finally finish carving pumpkins (I'm limiting the quantity we take on next year!). I soaked the seeds and they are drying now. Tomorrow we will roast them for our first time.
I have to say -- it was an Adventure Mom type weekend. I let my kids carve -- safety mom usually rules, so this was big for me to let go a bit. We used the small saw tools from one of those kits. The kids are 8 and 9 and were great at it. I am glad I loosened up! We had fun going where the mood took us and I'm glad we skipped the working in the yard part of the weekend I had planned. The weather was nice and was meant to be enjoyed. We drove about admiring the colors God painted on the trees this year. Awesome.
This morning I called in late to work and went to the school's Halloween parade. 650 elementary school kids in full costume marched around the school. I'm so glad I didn't miss it!
It is so easy to let ourselves down by worrying more about work obligations. The last few years work prevented me from taking a moment to see a bunch of kids parade in their Halloween finest. Seize the day! I made myself let go and have fun this past weekend and this morning. Sometimes you just have to do what is right for you. I need more ME time lately.
I refuse to live with regret anymore about the moments I'm missing. Darn it all -- I don't want to miss anymore. My kids were thrilled to see me cheering and snapping pictures at the parade. I'm so glad I made the choice I did.
