I will not continue to rant on the auto situation, but what I will add to my previous post is that I completely understand that there is waste in that industry and that there are people who are overpaid (and that the jobs bank needed to go!). I still stand by the need to help your neighbor by spending money locally whenever possible -- whether that locality is your town or your country. Either way, spending locally saves you in the long run because ultimately those who lose their jobs will be supported by your tax dollars.
I'd much rather support people who are working for a living :-)

My first option always is to shop locally. Even today, i did some foot-slogging around town to find a part for an overhead projector... unfortunately, because i live in rural Australia [ie. the country], our suppliers are in the same boat as I am... in other words, i have to order the part from interstate!
I wish the government would relax that rule about them being the only ones who can legally print money. I mean they are printing so much late how could a couple ten thousands extra make a difference? :)
I think the idea of shopping locally. I also try to frequent the "mom and pop" type establishments.
I am all for helping those who help themselves!
Hope you have a merry Christmas!
just DON'T let the government run the auto companies.
I'm just freaking out about that.
I don't trust the government either... glad there was a bridge loan announced today. Too late for many in my state... but hopefully some jobs are saved.
