While I was working yesterday my daughter had an AWESOME soccer game. Soccer was definitely the high point of our family's weekend. Saturday my son's team won their 2nd game of the season. The only game they won last season was a forfeit (that occurred due to a schedule conflict). I don't think they won a single game the season prior. It isn't that they are the bad news bears, they just need a couple of stand out players and better coaching.
The coach is super sweet, but he never played and he misses some pretty obvious tactical stuff (like telling the forwards that this other team's goalie drops the ball a LOT so stay near him and aggressive -- don't assume he will make the save). I got my husband involved and he was able to assist the coach (who seems to respect my hubby's soccer knowledge more than mine -- which is fine). I got T to get those defensive players to play farther up and it REALLY helped. Anyway, they have won 2 of 3 games and I'm thrilled for them. You don't need to win every game, but winning a few sure is nice with all the losses this team has suffered!
My daughter has been having a good season thus far -- 2 goals per game for all three games! She played goalie yesterday and knocked everyone's socks off. She scored her 2nd goal of the day while playing GOALIE! She made a save and was clearing the ball from the 18 yard line. She kicked it high and long, it bounced off the other teams 18 yard line and went way back up -- and OVER the other goalie's outstretched arms. She scored! She is so proud. I'm thrilled for my 10 year old! Wish I could have been there to see it, but I treasured her telling the story. She isn't one to brag at all -- she was humbly thrilled.
This is what I meant by the up and down weekend in my last post -- the ups have such beauty while the down was so low.
