Okay, so I went back to the sleep doctor today. I was supposed to get the results from my sleep study and find out why the heck I have so much trouble sleeping. Is it the chronic pain (Hubby votes yes) or is it the sleep apnea (runs in the family -- thanks Dad!). I was so excited to FINALLY be getting the results!!
So, the results are in! I have to got in for ANOTHER sleep study! Are they trying to make a woman nuts or what????? Apparently Mr. Doctor Man can not make a conclusive diagnosis with the present data. He told me I wake MANY times. He told me the majority of my sleep is stage 1 and 2 -- not the good restorative stuff in the 3 and 4 range. He told me that my blood oxygen was good and that I only stopped breathing a few times. He told me that I still may have sleep apnea -- that my constant waking could be me reacting to a blocked airway and that if that is the case I will need a breathing machine if I am ever to get good sleep.
So, I have to go for another sleep study with more sensitive equipment. This because he would treat sleep disturbance caused by pain differently than disturbance caused by airway blockage. What a fricking pain in my a$$! To irritate me more, they can't schedule me for another sleep study until 2/2 because they are all booked up. Even after the study it is 3 weeks before the results are all compiled and analyzed. So, I'm basically out of luck on restful sleep. I get to face several more months of sleepiness. How much does that suck?
And I thought the sleep issue would be solved today. I was even willing to deal with the breathing machine starting TONIGHT if it helped me get restorative sleep. No such luck. Mr. Doctor Man can't give me a sleep medicine in case it really is sleep apnea and not pain (from the '01 auto accident) . If it is just pain, Mr. Doctor Man will give me a sleep medicine (I used to be on trazadone but then had hormonal issues as a side effect so I had to stop taking it). So, the sleep struggles continue. Testing is never simple with me -- I'm always outside of the norm. Gotta love it. I'm hoping the sleep clinic has a cancellation and can move my appointment up. Enough is enough!

this is not making any sense. Get the breathing machine and take the drugs both! get this woman some sleep.!!! I have no patience with doctors. Sleep is sooooo important.
Are you allowed to take xanex (sp?) just short term?, to get some sleep for the holiday season, just to get you thru until the next sleep study/test thing??
Why are they over looking the stress aspect?? Stress (like fear) can keep you from getting the rest-type sleep you need. and it's a very bad cycle. that is very hard to break. re-training the body to sleep is huge. the brain can hold on to stress/fear and sleep is a thing of the past. and if you have chronic pain and/or apnea that makes it just that much worse. so get the breathing machine. get the drugs and use stress relief: like singing!! Belting out a good Christmas carols really helps cut the stress. I'm singing more and more these days... ;-)
